ABIFF Festival – Bucharest, July 9-11, 2021

For 3 days, the ABIFF Festival will capture the public’s attention by broadcasting 400 animated films, mostly European. The event will initially take place in Bucharest between July 9 and 11, 2021, and will be multiplied in the county residences in Romania.

The ABIFF festival has as defining theme the relationship between majority and ethnic minorities. The festival will become a tourist objective, while seeking to facilitate the export of artistic services in audiovisual, increased, through related activities, the development of entrepreneurial skills in the cultural field and the development of ICT skills in cultural creation.

For the first edition, the focus will be on Romania, the organizers proposing that in each of the next editions another European country become the main country.

The ABIFF Festival will have 5 Contest Sections with Prizes of thousands of euros:

1. Competitional Section– competition section where all the productions selected after registration will be presented.

PRIZe: 3.000

2. Thematic Section – dedicated to the minority-majority relationship, aims to identify innovative ways to resolve the possible tensions of majority-minority relations.

PRIZE: 1.000

3. Young Professionals Section will be intended for students and those who have graduated in the last 3 years in the field.

PRIZE: 1.000

4. Debut Section will be intended for those who are in their first animated short film, regardless of whether they are graduates of a specialized faculty or not.

PRIZE: 1.000

5. Script Section will be intended for all authors.

PRIZE: 1.000


January 1 – June 15, 2021

There is no age limit.

Competitors from any country can register.

There is no registration fee.

After watching the animated films, there will be question and answer sessions. After each screening day, questions will be recorded from the spectators in each city. The questions will be centralized and sent to those targeted from the teams that participated in the making of the presented films / the jury / the festival team, etc. They will send video recordings with their answers, recordings that will be centralized and edited, resulting in a press conference film of the event. The film will be streamed online on the festival’s website and on other multimedia channels.

The ABIFF Festival is organized by the ABI-Foundation within the project “Bucharest International Animation Film Festival – ABIFF”, funded by the EEA Grants 2014-2021 under the RO-CULTURE Program, the call “Strengthening cultural entrepreneurship and audience and public development” (session 1).
